Marina planning application submitted

Marina Regeneration Plans

Following 20 months of public consultation the regeneration proposals for the western area of the Marina have been submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council.

The plans deliver radical improvements to the Marina with a wealth of public spaces, including an attractive Harbour Square, to replace the existing roundabout; an undercliff park and lagoon; a foot and cycle bridge from the cliff; a 2km jogging track and the regeneration of Park Square to create a new and vibrant entertainment space for all ages and all seasons. The development delivers the long-held vision for Brighton Marina as a vibrant district centre.

Jim Dennis, project leader from Explore Living, said: “The planning context for the Marina sets out an aspiration to enhance the area environmentally, visually, functionally and commercially and to transform it into an exhilarating, sustainable location of quality and renown. A place to live, work and play.

“After twenty months of intensive collaboration with the community and the city we now believe our proposals represent a balanced response to these objectives.”

The regeneration includes over 500 affordable homes targeted at key workers; improved retail facilities; a health centre; a modernised ASDA superstore; 500 new jobs; and many environmentally-friendly innovations.
